The Child Life Specialist will provide oversight and supervision for volunteers, provide child life services to patients in the Massie Family Clinic and participants in the Research Clinic, and provide support to the Social Skills sibling groups at the MIND Institute. This is a part-time, per diem appointment with variable hours.REQUIRED- Professional Child Life Certification.- Bachelor's degree.- Experience with children in a health care setting and/or related setting (e.g., day care, preschool, public school, camp counselor). - Knowledge of therapeutic milieu in a health care facility for children and adults.- Ability to implement therapeutic play/activities using group or individual methods.- Ability to assess patients' and visitors' behaviors in terms of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs. - Ability to communicate clearly to children and adults and write with accurate grammar and syntax.PREFERRED - Bachelor's or master's degree with major in Child/Human Development, Education, Recreation or Psychology. - Experience with children with neurodevelopmental disorders.- Experience with supervising volunteers and/or interns. - Knowledge of UC Davis Internship program and Volunteer Services.- Knowledge of interdisciplinary team concepts.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.- Must be able to work some evenings as necessary and be able to maintain flexible schedule as required by workload and program needs (e.g., working 3-4 Saturday events per year).
