The Physician will see patients in the office and evaluate, initiate, and provide on-going therapy for those patients seen. The practice will be limited to patients with hematological or cancer related problems. On average the Physician may see 10-20 patients per day. In addition to those duties, the Physician will be responsible for doing consultations in Rideout Hospital as requested by local physicians. The Physician will admit and follow patients in the hospital when the need arises; answer any phone calls from patients or physicians after hours on a rotating call schedule; perform procedures such as bone marrow biopses as needed for patients in the hospital and Cancer Center; and direct chemotherapy administration to patients in the Cancer Center. When seeing patients at the Cancer Center, the physician will oversee the work of a nurse and a medical assistant, as well as from 2 to 4 nurses in the Infusion Center who are actually administering the chemotherapy. The Physician will be expected to actively participate and recruit patients for ongoing UC Davis Cancer Care Network Clinical Trials.REQUIRED- Must possess an M.D. or D.O. Degree- Completion of an accredited hematology/oncology fellowship program- Must be board certified in Internal Medicine and eligible for board-certification in Medical Oncology- Current and/or eligible for medical licensure in California- Functions effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team- Demonstrates effective teaching and medical management skills to transition patients from an inpatient setting back to their outpatient care setting - Functions in a professional manner with regards to patients, families, and colleagues.- Effective communicator - Solid understanding of the common diseases that clinical-based physicians deal with on a daily basis. - Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in understanding health care systems and how to manage their patients' care needs.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
