This position perform the duties of a surgical technician, and more self-direction and independent decision making is expected with available consultation with the RN or OR management team. Exercise initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established principles and practices to new and unusual event relating to areas of responsibility.REQUIRED - At least two years recent experience as a surgical technician in the OR - Proficient in scrubbing multiple surgical procedures including Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, General, Vascular, ENT, Plastics, Urology, and Pain Management - Graduation from an accredited Surgical Tech programPREFERRED - NBSTSA or NCCT National Certification strongly preferredSPECIAL REQUIREMENT - Must be able to work flexible hours, rotating shifts dictated by on call responsibilities - Knowledge and understanding of standards and guidelines of the following: AORN (Assn. of Operating Room Nurses), CORT (Certified Operating Room Tech.), AAMI (American Assn. of Medical Instrumentation) and AST (Assn. of Surgical Technologists) - Knowledge of principles and practices of asepsis/sterile techniques - Working knowledge of common major procedures for major surgical services - Ability to stand for long hours, physical strength to assist in moving patients and equipment.
