At Mount Sinai Hospital, 2 North is a 34-bed medical–surgical unit staffed by registered nurses, LPNs, and CNAs. We provide quality care for our diverse patient population.
As a Level One Trauma Center, our unit receives trauma patients as well as post-surgical patients of a multitude of specialties. Our patients are typically admitted from the Emergency Department or the Post Anesthesia Care unit. We also receive patients transferred from the SICU or from the Surgical Step-down and direct admission for pre-op care. In addition to caring for trauma patients, we care for a wide spectrum of surgical patients ranging from general surgical procedures, vascular surgeries, bariatric surgeries, gynecological surgeries, orthopedic surgery, and spine surgery.
Our physician team includes board certified intensivists, and trauma physicians and surgeons from all specialties. We also have a full complement of resident physicians specializing in trauma, trauma surgery, general surgery, otolaryngology; orthopedics, obstetrics, gynecology, oncology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, and more.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, we work closely with our social workers, who link our patients to support services. Our social workers also locate appropriate resources to help patients cope withpost-traumatic stress, medication assistance programs, placement issues, and the transition from hospital to home. Our team includes speech, physical and occupational therapists who do a wonderful job of getting our patients up and moving.
Staffing and scheduling is always a priority for our nursing staff. We use an online self-scheduling program to fit the individual needs of our caregivers, with the added convenience of being able to view schedules and make requests at any time.In addition, we utilize online shift bidding to offer open shifts at a premium rate. This gives our nurses the opportunity to pick up extra shifts, flex staff and enhance the continuity of care.
2 North is a fast-paced, exciting environment. If you are passionate about teamwork, education and trauma care, this might be a unit for you.
