The Sports Medicine / PM&R Medical Director provides clinical oversight to Midlevel Providers of the Pain Management Team. In this role you will: Provide direct patient care and oversight of patient care diagnosis and treatment plans for patients referred into the Pain Management DepartmentPerform outpatient musculoskeletal and neuromuscular pain diagnoses and treatmentsDevelop functional assessments of pain issues including acute and chronic pain, headaches, musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck pain, tendonitis, pinched nerves, osteoarthritis, myalgia, post herpetic neuralgia, carpal tunnel and fibromyalgiaTreat patients of all ages afflicted with painful and function-limiting musculoskeletal disorders of the spine, peripheral joints, and soft tissues such as sprains/strains, disc herniation's, rheumatologic conditions and athletic injuriesPrescribe therapeutic exercise and other rehabilitation modalitiesRecommend therapy techniques, interventional pain procedures and rehabilitation plans. - Perform injection techniques such as peripheral nerve blockade, trigger point injections, large and small joint injectionsInterpretation of electro diagnostic studies including electromyography, nerve conduction studies, and evoked potentials to diagnose carpal tunnel and pinched nerves or other pain related issuesMajor Administrative/ Practice management responsibilities: Participate in the interview, selection, orientation, development of clinical staff and providersEnsures cost effective use of resources. Participates with RN Team Leaders to coordinate and communicate re: patients across all venues of careEnsures excellent patient communication, appropriate medical records documentation, and teamworkSupervision/evaluation of provider staff for compliance with all SMA/SHS policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, and standards of practice to ensure quality of careLead and/or participate in Multi-disciplinary Pain Management Team meetings Provides communication among the team members to discuss care plans, goal setting and patient profiles in team conferences
Required Qualifications:MD/DO degree or equivalent experience.Outpatient Physician (1 in NYC)Should be PM&R, Family Practice with Sports Certification, Orthopedic (nonsurgical). Must be UPN (University Physician Network) certified, have hospital privileges at NYU hospital, or be NYU trained (resident or Med school) Careers with Orthology.
