The Director of the Budget, Planning, & Analysis Department is responsible for supervising the analysis and interpretation of financial data, including the development of short and long-range income and expense projections, the implementation of automated budget planning strategies, and modeling and projection techniques. This position also oversees the maintenance of systems for monthly expense tracking and budget variance analysis.The responsibilities require that the incumbent develop and maintain effective working relationships with the CEO of the UC Davis Medical Center (UCDMC), the Dean of the School of Medicine (SOM), all Associate and Assistant Directors within UCDMC, SOM Department Chairs, Managers within the SOM and all departments within UC Davis Health (UCDH). In developing analyses and recommendations, the incumbent will apply an integrated Health System perspective and ensure timely and effective communication of pertinent information with all levels of management and staff within the organization.REQUIRED- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Health Care Administration, or related field.-The position requires in-depth financial knowledge, management skills, strong analytical abilities and understanding of hospital operations. Financial knowledge includes: advanced financial and accounting principles, ability to read and interpret financial and statistical reports.-Ability to analyze and project fiscal impact of changes in hospital activity and/or trends.-Ability to identify information sources from both within and outside the institution and apply that data to develop in-depth financial models.-Ability to develop a team of analysts to perform advanced analysis using a variety of computer applications.-Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to explain complex calculations in a simplified manner.-Strong management skills with a team orientation.-Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and present complex financial concepts effectively to a non-financial audience.-Ability to develop positive professional relationships with all levels of the organization.-Ability to make sound decisions and employee effective problem solving techniques to analyze complex problems or information in an objective manner, derive logical conclusions, and initiate appropriate actions for effective resolution and follow through.-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.PREFERRED-MBA or MS.-Experience in a large academic healthcare setting.-Experience in managing the budget process in a complex organization.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
