The Biorepository Manager is responsible for effectively managing, planning, and implementing all operations of several Biorepositories, to maximize usefulness and quality, including: safety training, developing SOPs, QA/QC processes for multiple ongoing projects in a rapidly changing research environment; overseeing the collection, processing, storage, retrieval and transfer of biospecimens according to best practices and strict adherence to all applicable policies and regulations; and acting as lead to oversee staff as well as student assistants and interns and their training. Additional duties include: coordinating regular meetings of the Specimen Management Committee; attending project team and advisory committee meetings; preparing and/or contributing to sponsor reports, academic manuscripts and other written documents; overseeing freezers and other equipment; and maintaining overall documentation of the functioning of the Biorepositories to include equipment needs, files pertaining to sample tracking, projects, shipping logs and communication/coordination with other laboratories.REQUIRED-Experience in a laboratory where biospecimens are archived or in a biorepository environment. Knowledge of laboratory best practices -Knowledge of biological specimens, basic assays in blood and urine, and types of collection tubes-Excellent organizational and management skills to plan, manage and prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks, and manage competing deadlines and priorities-Attention to detail is essential-Ability to assume responsibility for coordination and completion of projects requiring interactions with many individuals, to work with minimal supervision and to take initiative to follow up on projects-Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. -Experience effectively communicating with investigators, clinic and field staff, and laboratory personnel located throughout the UC Davis campus and at outside institutions-Writing skills to assist in preparation of reports and contribute to other written documents such as sponsor progress reports, advisory committee reports and manuscriptsPREFERRED-Lab/Specimen Management -Experience managing a biorepository or other laboratory environment utilizing human biologic specimens with knowledge of or training in biobanking best practices highly desirable-Experience with database software and concepts and combining data from numerous sources.
