The Cost Analyst - Physician Practice (Decision Support Specialist 3) is responsible for all activities related to the design, use, improvement and maintenance of the cost accounting system with an emphasis on professional services cost accounting. Proactively and independently develops, interprets and implements highly complex cost accounting methods and solutions with a focus on improving processes. Using innovative ideas and techniques, works closely with School of Medicine (SOM) departments and Hospital departments to implement School of Medicine cost data and Hospital department RVUs. The Analyst has high level of involvement in complex finance projects including the implementation of the School of Medicine into EPSi. Analyzes and develops recommendations regarding financial implications to the SOM's current and prospective clinical programs through the benchmarking of processes and metrics in order to further develop the clinical practices, consolidate efficiency, and improve financial and utilization performance. Assists in the cost calculation process and reconciliation variance analysis when needed.REQUIRED-Demonstrated expertise in the financial principles and methodologies specific to a major healthcare system and assigning costs to professional services-Experience in cost accounting methodologies, including cost standards development, indirect allocation methodology, and maintaining a cost accounting system.-Strong knowledge of accounting principles-Familiarity with hospital financial and benchmarking methodologies-Knowledge of financial concepts, medical record coding (ICD, DRG, CPT), medical terminology and healthcare reimbursement.-Able to use critical thinking skills to recognize opportunities, report on the financial impact of proposed actions and work with leadership to develop appropriate business strategies.-Analytical, statistical and mathematical skills to conduct complex and quantitative analysis with a high degree of accuracy-Able to present complex information to diverse groups, support findings and collaboratively drive change based on organizational goals and strategic objectives)-Strong computer skills including MS Excel, databases (MS Access, SAS), presentation software (Power Point), and visualization tools (Tableau, Qlikview).-Able to manage multiple tasks and projects, prioritize and meet deadlines while openly communicating project status to customers and using interpersonal skills to negotiate deadlines.-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, nursing staff, and co-workers-Bachelor Degree in Accounting and Finance or relevant related experienceSPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
