Summary: Ensures that patients receive a professional financial screening, payment determination and qualifying services to all patient types in cooperation with patient access staff, medical staff, and external vendors within the community. Functions as a patient advocate by providing courteous communication with patients, family members, physician offices and other departments. Critical to maintaining positive account outcomes Financial Counselor are responsible for resolving account inquiries and handling point of service collections.
Standard Work Duties: LRHPG Financial Counselor - Interviews self-pay patients to obtain accurate demographic and financial information - Responsible for providing financial screening for patients and communicating patient's uninsured portion. Works with patient/guarantor to obtain payment and ensures that payment arrangements are within LRH Ambulatory guidelines. - Works in collaboration with Medicaid Eligibility vendors and follow-up teams to ensure patients receive appropriate financial screening. - Provides assistance to walk-in patients inquiring about their accounts and makes every effort to resolve any discrepancies - Reviews appointment schedule & available work list capabilities at least 5 days prior to patient visit and makes every attempt to contact patients to remind them of expected amounts at time of visit. - Sets up payment plans, collects patient copays, deductibles, procedure deposits, and outstanding account balances from patients - Uses on-line and Internet applications available to screen patients for insurance eligibility, address verification, credit history, etc. * Stewardship - Demonstrates responsible use of LRH's resources including people, finances, equipment and facilities. - Knows and adheres to organizational and department policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Essential: * High School or Equivalent Nonessential: * Associate Degree
Essential: 2+ years of experience in a healthcare business office. Ability to read and interpret Insurance Explanation of Benefits.
