To perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) procedures at the request of physicians to assist in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. Assist with the clinical training of students and Cardiology Fellows associated with the Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Lab.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs cardiac ultrasound procedures.
Documents patient's clinical history and technologist impressions of the images obtained on exam request forms.
Assists the cardiologist with obtaining images and equipment operation during transesophageal echocardiography.
Assist the cardiologist with obtaining images during stress echocardiography.
Reviews Xcelera images with the interpreting cardiologist before final interpretations are completed.
Performs work safely adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
Reports to the Technical Director in a timely manner any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to one-self, other employees, patients and visitors.
Assists in the instruction of cardiac ultrasound students and Cardiology Fellows during their practice performance at Christiana Care.
Rotates on on-call schedule covering off hours and weekend rotation.
Performs pediatric echocardiography, if experienced.
Performs other duties as required.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to pediatric, adolescent , adult, and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and provide the care needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree from an accredited school of cardiovascular technology.
Registry-eligible and must sit for registry and become RDCS/RCS within the first year of employment.
Pass the registry exam from either the ARDMS or RDCS.
IV experience with saline contrast and Definity contrast.
Experience in Transesophageal echo, stress echo, dobutamine stress echo and adult echo.
