The Chief of Social Work Service is responsible for defining the mission and vision of Social Work service, developing the scope of practice for all staff in Social Work Service, and designing a plan of care and assuring implementation of qualify improvement measures. The incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, clarifying, administering, and managing Social Work Service for all areas of the Medical Center. ensures the delivery of Social Work services on a routine and emergent basis, including non-administrative hours; ensures that essential Clinical Social Work functions are provided, to include pre-admission planning and admission; discharge planning and coordination; coordination of community-based services; and crisis intervention services; drafts service level policies to provide staff accurate, current procedural information, instructions, guidelines and resources; completes resource request packets for Resource Board review; tracks required licensure and/or certification for all Social Workers, including continuing education requirements, license renewal , and other requirements that Social Workers must meet; ensures that social work graduate interns receive education and training consistent with requirements of the affiliated schools of social work; provides supervision for all staff within Social Work Service Line; develops position descriptions or functional statements, performance standards, competency assessments, and completes performance appraisals; plans or participates in planning for Social Work coverage in all program areas, including after hours coverage; ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CARF, and Long Term Care Institute standards as applicable to social work service and programs; develops and implements social work practice guidelines to streamline operations; and, provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact clients and staff.
