This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The Nurse Manager ICU/Dialysis is responsible and accountable for managing patient care, patient care programs, and staff activities in caring for patients with critical conditions and acute illnesses/medical and behavioral conditions. The ICU/Dialysis Nurse Manager ensures that appropriate staffing levels are maintained and is consistent with Staffing Methodology. The incumbent is a member of the Nursing Administrative Council (NAC) and works as a dynamic contributor to decisions related to patient care, nursing practice, programmatic design and leadership. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Responding timely and appropriately to unexpected changes in available staff or demand for staffing. Works effectively and collaboratively with the Nurse Managers, Nurse Recruiter, Staffing Methodology Coordinator, and Chief Nurse Inpatient to assure safe levels and availability of competent nursing staff to provide care on the unit assigned. Uses advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. Reviews health team's documentation to assure procedures are documented effectively meeting current standards of practice. Guides, develops, and supports staff from a leadership perspective. Develops and implements an educational plan to meet the needs for self and other staff in a program or service. Initiates and participates in orientation, unit based in-services, and mandatory education activities in a self-directed manner. Ensures every employee under his/her supervision has a competency checklist that is completed by the end of their rating period. As the supervisor, the incumbent ensures that the staff under his/her supervision is trained in the set-up, use, reprocessing, and maintenance of their unit/department-specific equipment leading to the initial competency and validation of ongoing competency at least annually. Incumbent ensures that staff are able to demonstrate and/or verbalize the proper use, pre-cleaning, and maintenance of equipment used in their unit/department. Incumbent must ensure that staff are able to demonstrate knowledge of use and pre-cleaning according to equipment Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). Shares information from evidence-based practice investigation finding or special projects through presentation (teaching) or publication. Assists nursing personnel with assessment, implementation, and evaluation of new approaches, procedures, and standards of patient care, based on reliable nursing evidence-based practice investigation. Promotes and assists staff in the application of evidence-based practice research to current practice. Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work. Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates. Making recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of subordinates. Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors. Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate. Responsible for maintaining continuous accreditation readiness of his/her units. Responsible for time scheduling of the unit, coaches staff, deals with employee conduct and performance issues, completes recurring reports and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
