The primary purpose of this position is to provide Health Care aid at the Health Care System VISN and facility levels. The position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center, and its various locations that provide in patient care, such as but not limited to the living centers. The primary responsibility of these positions will be screening all who enter the facility for COVID-19. Applicants selected for these positions will primarily perform COVID-19 screening for incoming employees, patients and visitors prior to entry into the facility. The screening process includes administering a symptom questionnaire to gauge symptoms as well as checking body temperature. In addition to screening, employees may perform the following duties at the discretion of management: Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Uses and follows proper hand hygiene, universal precautions and general infection control principles. Screening of all individuals both staff and Veterans who enter VA facilities that include CBOC/PCC and VAMC. Validates both staff and Veterans temperature before allowing into VA facility. Notifies triage Nurse when unable to authorize patient entry into clinical areas and directs patient to waiting area for further triage. Directs traffic as needed and provides vehicle screening-advising drivers where to park. Assists as needed with transferring, and escorting inpatients/residents. Maintains general cleanliness of the waiting and sitting areas. Carries records, reports, laboratory specimens, x-rays, prosthetic equipment and patient prescriptions to designated areas, excluding control substance. Establishes and promotes effective interpersonal relationships and communications with inpatients/residents, families and others. Responds to inpatients/residents' family members', visitors,' and co-workers' requests for assistance promptly and in a friendly cooperative manner. Wears VA name badge above waist at all times. Reports observations of the condition of acute and chronic phase patients such as excessive vomiting, bleeding, type and amount of drainage, skin integrity, patency of airway, etc. Makes follow-up call to patients as assigned. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities.
