SUMMARY
New York Children's Medical Provider Services (NYCMPS) group is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide newborn services at the Nuvance Health Putnam Hospital. The applicant would be responsible for delivering comprehensive newborn care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions according to standards of practice for late-preterm and term newborns. This person will function as a member of the newborn medical team within an integrated model. Interested applicants will be linked to the application at the Connecticut Children's Hospital website.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Treat and evaluate term and premature newborns who are born at the Nuvance Health Putnam Hospital and promote the health of the child and family.
Primary areas of care can include the Delivery Room and Well-Newborn Nursery within NYCMPS's partner hospitals ranging from Birthing Center to Level I newborn acuity. With opportunity to provide care in NYCMPS primary Level III site, as appropriate for the candidates level of training.
Respond to and appropriately manage life-threatening emergencies in the Delivery Room, the Well-Baby Nursery, and the Emergency Room.
Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab tests and x-ray results and perform physical examinations.
Perform and maintain competence in required procedures for each site of care as assigned; this may include umbilical vessel catheterization, endotracheal intubation, needle decompression, neonatal resuscitation, lumbar puncture, venipuncture, and/or IV placement.
Consult with attending physicians for appropriate patient referrals and monitor outcomes.
Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.
Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific gestation populations and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the NYCMPS STANDARDS.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for on-site collaboration with other services lines.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Family Medicine Nurse Practitioners or Registered and Certified Physician Assistant. Minimum of 2 years' experience preferred, will be considered on an individual basis for appropriate roles. New graduates will be considered on an individual basis. Bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish a plus.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Registered and Certified Physician Assistant -or- Current State of NY Physician Assistant licensure -or- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure required at time of hire and maintenance at time of appointment or privilege approval (allow one-year grace period for renewal if gap).
For PA hires: required to obtain and maintain NCCPA certification at time of appointment or privilege approval; allow one-year grace period for renewal if gap.
