Family Medicine & Obesity Medicine UNC Health Children?s-Wilmington
UNC Health Children?s-Wilmington is seeking a physician trained in Family Medicine with additional expertise in Obesity Medicine to join our pediatric endocrinology clinic focused on the comprehensive management of children and adolescents with obesity, metabolic conditions, and related endocrine disorders. This role offers the opportunity to practice patient-centered, evidence-based care within a multidisciplinary pediatric specialty setting. The physician will work collaboratively with pediatric endocrinologists, advanced practice providers, dietitians, behavioral health professionals, and other clinical team members to support long-term health outcomes for pediatric patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Provide outpatient clinical care for pediatric and adolescent patients with obesity and related metabolic conditions.
Manage obesity-related comorbidities (e.g., insulin resistance, prediabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension) in collaboration with pediatric endocrinology specialists.
Deliver family-centered counseling on nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral strategies using evidence-based obesity medicine principles.
Participate in multidisciplinary care models, case conferences, and treatment planning.
Support continuity of care through coordination with primary care providers and specialty services.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical program development related to pediatric weight management.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency.
Formal training or board eligibility/certification in Obesity Medicine.
Eligible for medical licensure in the state of practice.
Experience or strong interest in caring for pediatric and adolescent populations.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to care.
Preferred Qualifications
Board Certified/Eligible in Family Medicine.
Prior experience working in a pediatric subspecialty or multidisciplinary clinic environment.
Interest in clinical program development, education, or population health initiatives.
